Job Summary
- Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and polices hospital building and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism while planning, organizing and directing departmental staff
Essential Functions
- Assists Department Directors in assuring security for patients, employees and visitors. Ensures protection of hospital buildings, assets and premises is accomplished per policy
- Consults with and keeps CEO or Assistant Administrator informed of activities, needs, problems in assigned areas and/or security personnel
- Patrols hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and intruders. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations
- Monitors conduct of visitors on hospital premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed
- Conducts welfare checks on nurses’ stations, issues supplies are requested and provides security services as developed in policies
- Reviews Security Officer’s initial investigations, maintains records and prepares incident report totals and other documents pertinent to security activities
- Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities as required, secures/issues patient valuables (in restricted access safe) or lost and found articles. Maintains logs of items received or dispensed and securing and/or unlocking of office and facilities
- Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control and assists in developing departmental policies
- Cares for and maintains departmental supplies and equipment as well as requisitioning supplies and equipment for the department
- Schedules and plans meetings and in-services to keep security officers abreast of policy change and additional security needs. Maintains professional growth and development through inservices, seminars, workshops, etc.
- Is prepared to handle emergencies such as fire, power outages, alarms and mechanical equipment failure
- Maintains departmental time schedule. Coordinates schedule of agency, per diem and regulatory scheduled security personnel
- Makes unannounced spot checks of facility to ensure security patrol logs, activities and reporting requirements are met
- Performs and evaluation of each officer’s performance
- Provides staff development in training certifications and competencies

- Consistently demonstrates guest relations skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and any other individuals with whom they may come in contact
- Consistently follows departmental and hospital health, safety, security, hazardous materials policies and procedures
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
- Excellent communication skills
- Approximate percent of time required to travel:
- Must read, write and speak fluent English
- Must have good and regular attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- College background in some field in Criminal Justice preferred

- Knowledge and/or experience in security procedures
