Job Description

BRC Mental Health Services is hiring Certified Peer Support specialist to work with adult peers one on one to support them on their journey through the recovery process and overcome barriers. They will assist peers in completing recovery plans and working toward identified recovery goals utilizing their own personal recovery experiences.

We are looking for Peer Support specialists to join us in creating a new type of housing and mental health service all in one program for those dealing with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) or both SPMI and substance abuse. We need someone who is passionate about generating creative ideas to help clients maintain stable environments and transition into the community.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Works with adult clients experiencing a behavioral health crisis to provide support and encouragement during client’s difficult moments
  • Offer support in learning and practicing new skills, building natural supports and resources in the community, engaging in their own self-directed recovery process, modeling recovery and resiliency tools and skills, and supporting them in advocating for themselves across environments.
  • Documents all client interactions in electronic health records system
  • Shares experience from personal road to recovery to promote growth and change
  • Provides individualized assistance and education in obtaining community services, maintaining life supports such as housing or income, carrying out the tasks of daily living, and participating in support groups or other community networks
  • Offers education and support in working toward physical and mental wellness, including healthy living behaviors
  • Participate in any in-service training for Team members
  • Must be self-motivated, hard-working, independent
  • Provide consistency and support to promote personal progress and accountability.
  • Model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by selectively using self-disclosure in telling one’s personal recovery story and demonstrating how a belief in oneself is maintained.
  • Empower clients to problem solve and find their own solutions.
  • Teach clients how to navigate a variety of community based services and organizations.
  • Assist clients in identifying strengths and readiness to actively pursue recovery goals.
  • Use several methods, client centered, to move through the process of setting and reaching recovery goals.
  • Completion of progress notes and progress reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with all members of the treatment team in regards to the clients’ strengths and recovery goals.
  • Maintain a nonjudgmental approach, use effective listening, eye contact, professionalism, and positive interactions at all times.
  • Promote the recovery journey involves the development of hope, self-esteem, purpose, decision making and problem solving skills, connection with others, and a satisfying and meaningful life.
  • To help clients achieve self-directed recovery. Hold the belief that every individual has strengths and the ability to learn and grow and committed to providing and advocating for effective recovery-based services for their clients in order for them to meet their own needs, desires, and goals.
  • Will seek to role-model recovery.
  • Respect the rights and dignity and the privacy and confidentiality of those they serve.
  • Promote recovery by openly sharing personal recovery stories with colleagues and those they serve to provide self-direction, empowerment, and encouragement to the peers they work with.
  • Maintain high standards of personal conduct and in a manner that fosters their own recovery.

  • To keep current with emerging knowledge relevant to recovery, and openly share this knowledge with their colleagues and those they serve.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all client documents, files and communication in written, electronic and/or verbal form and follows all HIPPA laws.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Peer support certificate issued by the State of Idaho
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Have at least one year in recovery
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Be able to pass state and/or federal background checks
  • Driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance
  • Computer and technology skills preferred
