The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is seeking a Director, Talent & Organizational Development . IDSA is a community of over 13,000 physicians, scientists and public health experts who specialize in infectious diseases. The Director, Talent & Organizational Developmen t plans, directs, and executes short-and long-term talent management and organizational development strategies to ensure the Society has the required capabilities and strategies to meet current and emerging needs. Provides strategic insights that translate into increased organizational effectiveness to support the achievement of established organizational and department goals.

The ideal candidate should possess a combination of strategic thinking, leadership skills, and in-depth talent management and organizational development expertise.

Qualifications

Characteristic Essential Responsibilities

Programmatic Management & Oversight:

  • Directs and ensures the implementation of strategic staffing activities including new positions, promotions, on/offboarding, ensuring that decisions address the competencies necessary to sustain and grow the organization
  • Recommends and implements change and knowledge management strategies, organizational processes, and cultural enhancements & interventions
  • Provides direction and oversight for the development and administration of HR policies and practices to ensure compliance with related legislation, regulations, and guidelines and compatibility with the Society’s strategy and culture
  • Oversees the development and implementation of total rewards strategies and structures (with a closer lens on management and leadership compensation) to ensure IDSA maintains a competitive program that supports talent acquisition and retention.
  • Strategizes and executes member and staff-facing inclusion, access, diversity and equity (IDA&E) plans

Strategic Oversight:

  • Oversees effective staff communication plans that keep staff appropriately informed.
  • Oversees employee relations activities ensuring ongoing staff engagement and collaboration pursuant to IDSA priorities and core values

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaborates with Vice President, Talent & Organizational Development to develop and define the vision for the department, including challenges and opportunities and how to best meet the needs of the organization
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Leads, coaches, and develops a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Outlines clear accountability and success measures for managing critical projects and programs
  • Plans and manages team capacity effectively
  • Models a coaching style for feedback and learning to support staff in contributing at highest levels
  • Manages department budget.
  • Anticipates future trends and their implications
  • Ensures regular analysis of data and performance measures to identify trends, opportunities, and areas of improvement
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or relevant discipline; relevant work experience may be submitted
  • Advanced degree a plus
  • At least 10 years of progressive generalist experience in human resources; experience in talent management and organizational development function is preferred
  • At least 5 years of management and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in human resources and organizational development (change management, knowledge management, process improvement) subject areas

Additional Qualifications: (Such as certifications, industry-specific experience and the experience working with certain equipment)

  • SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP certification is a plus

Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Maintain availability to travel to and/or virtually support ID Week
  • Annual All Staff Retreat
  • End of year Celebration
  • Occasional in-office staff meetings

Physical Demands

  • This position requires sitting and/or standing at a desk, prolonged sitting and bending and lifting during travel, as well as extensive sitting, standing, walking, and lifting during IDWeek.
  • This role also requires access to stable internet, and ability to spend several hours on the computer.
