Job Description

Construction Project Accountant Location Hybrid work in Irvine, CA :

Compensation Range $70,000 - $80,000 / Year

Overview

Eligible for a hybrid work schedule split between home & office. You may know us for our extensive menu of delicious food… and for being recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For®” since 2014. The Cheesecake Factory, a renowned leader in the restaurant industry with a market capitalization of $3.4 billion, is seeking a staff accountant to join our Development Accounting team. This role will focus on the company's construction and remodel accounting activities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of both GAAP and cost accounting, an eye for detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position provides the unique opportunity to report directly to the Senior Director of Development Accounting while interacting frequently with our Development Executives, Project and Construction Managers, and the broader Finance and Accounting team. You will tackle projects from start to finish by assisting with contracts and agreements, helping to track project costs, reviewing change orders and purchase orders for proper approvals, and preparing ad hoc analyses and reports. You will also assemble monthly construction-in-progress and inventory reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies. Additionally, the staff accountant will review lease requirements and collect documentation and lien waivers to help collect our tenant improvement allowances from landlords. You'll thrive in this position if you are:
  • A skilled time manager: Deadlines are a key part of an accountant's life, especially at a publicly traded company. You confidently meet them with proper planning and execution.
  • A strong communicator: Whether verbal or written, you present information clearly and professionally. You also understand that keeping your manager in the loop is critical to the team's success.
  • A team player: While you're a capable self-manager, you thrive as part of a team. You enjoy collaborating and brainstorming with others, especially on new projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, issue, and track project work authorizations by gathering proposals from project managers and assembling project work authorizations for our consultants on new construction and remodel projects.
  • Assemble construction contracts for review.
  • Track updates and changes to our project cost reports, providing real-time visibility to project managers and executives on current construction costs.
  • Review leases for tenant allowance collection requirements and assist with document collation.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual audit requests to ensure SOX controls are operating effectively.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and reports as required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of staff accountant experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Business-related Bachelor's degree (Accounting is a plus).
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting.
  • Recent experience using a mid-to-large ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Infor/Lawson, MS Dynamics, Epicor, etc.)
  • Strong Excel skills, including v/h lookup and pivot tables.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Enjoyment of a smaller department culture within a larger company.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with set deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
What we prefer:
  • Cost accounting/construction industry experience.
What we offer:
  • Vacation and sick time
  • Medical, Dental & Vision
  • 401K with company match
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • 25%-35% discount when dining as a guest
  • Annual stipend for dining in our restaurants
