DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: Assists the inpatient pharmacy in accomplishing the goals of efficiently dispensing medications through preparation of bulk and batch sterile products (IV solutions), providing drugs and supplies to nursing stations and all associated functions that are entailed in that process, and producing accurate patient charges. Under the direction of a Staff Pharmacist, assists or supports the pharmacist as needed in all aspects of efficiently dispensing medication, providing accurate service, preparing invoices and bills, ordering and maintaining drugs and medical suppliesRequirementsDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent is required. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) licensure required. Maintains current registration with the NM Board of Pharmacy.

SKILLS:

Effective verbal and interpersonal skills are required Basic computer skills are required Familiarity with medical terminology and pharmaceutical math are required. EXPERIENCE: One-year experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Director of Pharmacy, Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor/Manager

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogens - B - (Occasional exposure in daily duties. Little expected risk but may be exposed unexpectedly to potential infectious materials. Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid.) Close quarters in a busy environment. Low risk for infectious disease. Possible exposures to hazardous chemicals, allergenic drug products and needle sticks. Moderate exposure to video display terminals PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to move throughout the hospital at a rapid pace to an entire shift. Hearing must be sufficient to answer telephones and eyesight perform aseptic technique. Must be able to raise moderate loads (less than 50 lbs.) using sound body mechanics alone or with assistance. Able to stand up for entire shift (8 to 12 hours), to stoop and bend over. Eyesight sufficient to read prescriptions and job orders.
